Vehicle City Gridiron Classic to open week 1 of football season at Atwood Stadium in Flint

One of the state's most historic stadiums, Atwood Stadium which is nearby downtown Flint will be host to 3 football games in week 1 of the football season.  The games will take place on the first Thursday of the season and coincide with events such as the Prep Kickoff Classic in Detroit.

To kickoff the entire 2017 season at 1 pm will be, Bendle vs. Goodrich in a Genesee Area Conference crossover.  Both teams will look to put disappointing 2016 seasons in the bag, as both teams reached the playoffs in 2015, but were unable to replicate their success.  Both programs have had a lot of success in the win column in recent years.

The scheduled 4 pm game is, Flushing vs. Linden in a Flint Metro League conference game.  Flushing started off 2016 with reasonably high expectations in and validated our expectations by beating D5 power, Flint Powers.  After week 1 Flushing was upset by Haslett and wasn't the same since.  A win will go a long way in their chase of FML title.  As for the Linden, the Eagles have been in the playoffs every season since 2001 so they know what the division title chase is like and deserve a stage such as this to showcase their successful program.  - FML opponents, Fenton and Ortonville Brandon kickoff their season at the University of Michigan also in week 1.

The nightcap and finale for the event will be at 7 pm between. Flint Carman-Ainsworth and Grand Blanc.  The two bordering programs will meet again in week 1 as they have each season since 2010 when Grand Blanc was one year removed from leaving Flint CA and the Big 9 Conference.  Few rivalries have been able to match that of Flint Carman-Ainsworth and Grand Blanc, as both have had a lot of success in the past and Carman-Ainsworth up until 2014 was a Division 1 team, now they're Division 2.  This year will also be the last time that Grand Blanc is in the KLAA as they're set to join the Saginaw Valley League in 2018-2019 and be back in the conference with Flint Carman-Ainsworth and other local rivals.  The Bobcats will also be breaking in a new era with head coach Clint Alexander who will be making his debut this game.  Alexander was previously the head coach at an all-male boarding school in Virginia - Woodberry Forest.

We'll update this page when ticket information is available.
