University of Michigan to host 6 games in week 1 of 2017 football season

Brandon opened 2016 with rivalry win over Goodrich

The University of Michigan will be host to 3 days of high school football in week 1 of the 2017 football season.  Lapeer and Clarkston's athletic departments who had a major role in last years set of games returned to fill up another week of games.

Also in week 1, Detroit Prep Kickoff Classic Schedule

Thursday - August 24th, 2017
4:00 pm - Saline vs. Rockford
- Rockford refused to travel for neutral site last year and unfortunately most of the team caught a virus during the summer and they forfeit what would have been a home opening game vs. Saline in week 1 of 2016.

7:00 pm - Belleville vs. Brighton
- Brighton has not had the toughest regular season and has problems advancing in the Division 1 playoffs, so preparing vs. good teams has been their goal and it's definitely been achieved.  Last year Brighton beat Detroit East English Village in week 1 so they're afraid to go head-to-head with a talent rich team such as, Belleville who also has aspirations of going far in D1.

Friday - August 25th, 2017
4:00 pm - Romeo vs. Oxford
- Last year, Romeo traveled to Oxford in week 1 and was upset following their 2015 state title.  Romeo put the loss behind them as reached the Division 1 semi-finals.  This will be their 4th year in a row opening the season, Oxford has won 2 of 3 and their previous playoff meeting in 2001.

7:00 pm - Clarkston vs. Lapeer
- These 2 strong programs have had several ties since Lapeer merged in 2014.  In 2014, Clarkston eliminated Lapeer in the district finals (23-20) en-route to their second straight Division 1 title and their 24th straight win of 27 which is the longest winning streak ever for a division 1 team.  Clarkston won a first round playoff game in 2015 and opened with a win vs. Lapeer in 2016.

Saturday - August 26, 2017
1:00 pm - Canton vs. Mona Shores
- Regular Division 1 contender, Canton and upstart Mona Shores will meet for the first time in school history in week 1.  Mona Shores recently was the runner-ups in Division 2 in 2014.

4:00 pm - Fenton vs. Ortonville-Brandon
- Longtime key match-up in the Flint Metro League will bring out the best in both teams again.  Fenton hasn't lost a Flint Metro League game since Lapeer East and West merged and also has had a share of the FML title every season since 2011.  Fenton's streak nearly ended last year as Fenton beat Ortonville-Brandon 28-22.
