Top in-state 2018 prospect, Kalon Gervin decommits from Notre Dame

This afternoon, the state's top prospect in Cass Tech 2018 CB Kalon Gervin decommitted from the University of Notre Dame.  Gervin recently was offered by Memphis, Western Michigan, and TCU to push his total offer count to 41.

Gervin committed on a big recruiting day to Notre Dame in February, obviously feeling the emotions around him, but just over 3 months later Gervin decided to re-evaluate his options.

The state's top corner and overall player in our rankings did nothing, but validate that point as his junior season was lights out and every high level camp he outperformed everyone who is fighting for the #1 spot.  Gervin was lights out at Camp Pride in January and continued it over to the Opening camps where he was invited to the final Opening at Nike's worldwide headquarters in July.

Gervin released this statement on Saturday, "I will be stepping off on my commitment to Notre Dame.  This is the best decision for me and my family at this time. Please respect my decision."

Gervin has been a solid piece to Cass Tech's secondary since his Freshman year and really started to standout as a Sophomore.  As a Junior we felt as though very few schools tried to pick on Gervin as they seen how tight his coverage was and how quickly he broke on the ball, resulting in film being much more valuable to evaluate than statistics and numbers.  As a Senior Gervin might not even see the ball thrown around his range in most of his games.

Now that Gervin is back on the market, expect to see many more schools at Cass Tech during evaluation period and we cannot even imagine what his phone text messages and direct messages look like right now.
