Jalen Mayfield has Top 5 and will commit on May 23rd, 2017

This past week Grand Rapids Catholic Central 2018 OT/DE Jalen Mayfield announced that he would be committing on Tuesday, May 23rd.  For Mayfield it will be the 2nd time he verbally commits in his senior off-season as he was committed to Minnesota from February 19th, 2017 to March 26th, 2017.   Two days before he decommitted, the University of Michigan stuck their hand in the cookie jar, extending an offer to Mayfield and Nebraska would later offer in April.  Iowa and Michigan State had offered previously

Jalen Mayfield informed us of his top 5 which is (in no order):

  • Iowa
  • Michigan
  • Michigan State
  • Minnesota
  • Nebraska

Mayfield has visited; Iowa, Michigan State, Minnesota, and Michigan at least once and has yet to visit, Nebraska. Mayfield mentioned he would not take any visits prior to his commitment.

Mayfield will go down in GRCC history has one of their top players as he's the only player to receive numerous offers in a decades time, anchoring a D4 state championship OL and DL in 2016.  In 2016 Mike Brown committed on a lone offer to Miami, Ohio and in 2010 Bronson Hill committed on a lone offer to Eastern Michigan.  Mayfield to-date has earned 16 offers.

Jalen Mayfield broke down the 5 finalists of what separates them from the pack, "the main thing that separates them from the rest is the coaching staff! They all have had tons and tons of success. So being able to have an opportunity to play for these coaches separates them from the rest."

As for what will be the determining factor of the 5 for his final decision, Mayfield replied, "my overall fit in the program and comfort with the coaches."

Stay tuned on May 23rd, for the big-time lineman' decision!
