Grand Rapids OL Jalen Mayfield invited to the US Army All-American Game

This afternoon Grand Rapids Catholic Central 2018 OL/DL Jalen Mayfield was invited to the US Army All-American Game that takes place the first weekend of 2018 for graduating seniors.  The Army game is 1 of 2 major all-star games that take place, but results in a serious roadblock for multi-sport athletes such as Jalen Mayfield who plays basketball in Michigan.

If you recall, if a player chooses to play in an all-star game the MHSAA has a rule that makes them ineligible for the remainder of their high school career in other MHSAA sports.  This doesn't happen often as the last player who had to choose between doing two right things was Dennis Norfleet in 2012.

Mayfield holds 16 offers, but has trimmed his list down as he'll commit on May 23rd, 2017.  Mayfield is down to; Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Iowa, and Nebraska.  Michigan offered while he was committed to Minnesota and he followed that by decommitting so many figure he'll wind up as a Michigan commit.

Mayfield is a big, strong, and quick moving lineman who anchored Catholic Central to the Division 4 state championship in 2016.  Mayfield has the versatility to develop into any role on the offensive line while in college.
