#13 Warren Mott beats Anchor Bay 49-0
Warren, MI -- Week 2 of the MHSAA High School football season marks the beginning of divisional games throughout the state in a majority of conferences. In the MAC White division, Anchor Bay (#21 in the MAC) would travel to Warren Mott (#13 in the State, #9 in Southeastern Michigan, and #2 in the MAC) to kickoff their chase for the MAC White crown.
Warren Mott was coming off a big road win against Troy Athens 41-6, while Anchor Bay fell to L'Anse Creuse 33-13. An interesting note with these two teams was that neither was in the MAC White last season, Anchor Bay was promoted from the MAC Blue and Warren Mott was demoted from the MAC Red.
The Anchor Bay Tars would start with the ball but on 3rd down, quarterback Connor Kost was sacked by Warren Mott Marauders defensive lineman, Matt Debski. At 9:45 Warren Mott would begin their drive following the punt at their own 31 yard line. After a QB keeper by Blake Jackson, Jackson would hand the ball off to Chris Ewing, who took care of it from there, out running the Tars defense for a 47 yard touchdown run. After 8:56 in the first quarter, Warren Mott led Anchor Bay 7-0.
Anchor Bay would take the ensuing kickoff to the Anchor Bay 24 yard line and drive down inside the 5 yard line. On 4th down Anchor Bay went for the touchdown instead of the field goal, but on the option play Kost was tackled in the backfield. Mott would punt but it would be a blessing in disguise, because Mott's linebacker, Jack Steele delivered a punishing hit on the punt returner forcing the fumble which was recovered by Mott's Ken Goins at the 35 yard line.
After both teams punted, Mott would drive and cap the drive off with a 20 yard touchdown run by Daveon Dorsey. With 9:25 remaining in the second quarter, Warren Mott was now up 14-0.
At 7:41 Anchor Bay lined up to punt but the snap sailed over punter, Alex Hamilton's head. Hamilton did all he could put was met by a trio of Mott defenders at the 6 yard line. After a tackle for loss by Anchor Bay, Warren Mott's Blake Jackson scored on a 9 yard QB keeper with 7:03 in the second quarter, the lead was now extended to 21-0.
Anchor Bay was able to move the ball downfield but it would end when Deshawn Burley slid for an interception at the 37 yard line with 5:06 in the second quarter. Warren Mott quickly drove up field and would cap the drive off with a 8 yard touchdown run by Daveon Dorsey, his second rushing touchdown of the day. With 4:15 in the 2nd quarter, Warren Mott now led Anchor Bay 28-0.
Warren Mott would force another fumble and it was Steele who picked up the loose ball. Jack Steele had to have around 10+ tackles at this point in the game, he was all over the field for the Marauders defense. With the rushing attack doing mostly all the damage so far it was time for the Mott passing game to get on the board. Blake Jackson would find his receiver, Vondale Kelly for a 24 yard touchdown reception. With 2:09 in the half, the score was now 35-0.
Mott would start the 2nd half at their own 23 and quickly move the ball downfield, the drive was capped off by a 44 yard touchdown run by Daveon Dorsey with 8:46 in the third quarter.
With a running clock neither team did anything too threatening. The only points scored the rest of the game was with 1:37 in the third quarter, when backup quarterback, Austin Ross (Brother of Lucas Ross) found an open Chris Ewing who ran around 90-85 yard for a 92 yard touchdown pass. The score of 49-0 would stand throughout the 4th quarter.
