Jesse Chadwell - 2013 OL

The Illinois Fighting Illini received a big verbal commit in the past month to shore their offensive line for the next 4 seasons.  Clarkston's Jesse Chadwell would verbally commit to the Illini after visiting the campus and first year head coach, Tim Beckman.  Beckman in his 2nd recruiting cycle has been able to secure two of the top prospects from Michigan, last season it was Devin Church of Brother Rice who would sign for Coach Beckman and Illinois and now Chadwell.  Jesse Chadwell was able to speak about the commitment and a little bit about the upcoming season.

Position (s): OT
Height & Weight: 6'5" 260
First Game Started: Sophomore year
#1 Most Memorable Game: Junior year, against Lake Orion
Pre-game Traditions: Go home from school, get my gear, subway, back to the school, listen to music, meetings, and game time.
Post-game Traditions: Eat, hot tub, and bed.
Athlete you try building your game around: Back in the day I would watch Jake Long. I would try to pass block like him and be aggressive on run blocking.

The D - Zone - Well were pretty fresh off of you committing to Illinois. So what really sticks about Illinois and how are you feeling committing prior to the season?

Jesse Chadwell - "The coaching staff was a big factor, coach Butkus and coach Beckman are really cool and they seem like the kind of people I want to play for. I feel relieved. It feels so good going into my last season of high school football knowing where I'm going to go to college."

The D - Zone - What are some things that Illinois is expecting of you for when you arrive on campus?

Jesse Chadwell - "A strong work ethic and great footwork."

The D - Zone - Since you have committed to Illinois have any other schools been trying to get you to switch your commitment?

Jesse Chadwell - "I haven't been contacted that much from coaches trying to change my mind. Either way there isn't any school that would trump Illinois."

The D - Zone - Since the loss to Walled Lake Central what have you been up to, to prepare for the upcoming season?

Jesse Chadwell - "I've been hitting the weights hard. Also I've been going to speed and agility workouts to keep me in shape."

The D - Zone - Have you been on the camp circuit this spring and if so how has it been?

Jesse Chadwell - "Ive only attended a few camps so far and I don't think I'll be going to anymore."

The D - Zone - What are some milestones or goals that you have set for the 2012 season?

Jesse Chadwell - "Develop a mean mentality on the field. Also to be a great leader for the young team we are going to have."

The D - Zone - What are some early keys to taking Clarkston to their 10th straight playoffs in 2012?

Jesse Chadwell - "Replacing the senior class. We've lost a lot of talent but my class and the younger class coming up are very talented as well. I dont think we'll skip a beat this year."

The D - Zone - To kickoff the season Clarkston begins with Rochester Adams, who will be good again. What are your early thoughts on Rochester Adams?

Jesse Chadwell - "They always give us a run for our money. I go to speed and agility workouts with their quarterback and he's a pretty talented kid. We never underestimate them."

The D - Zone - As an offensive line, how do you develop chemistry with likely new starters at both Quarterback and Runningback in 2012?

Jesse Chadwell - "By leading them in the off season. I see them in the weight room every day and we have a good relationship. I am good friends with our new runningback coming up and that friendship alone will help us on the field during the season."

The D - Zone - What does the rivalry versus Lake Orion mean to you and how big is a win against Lake Orion?

Jesse Chadwell - "Its a pretty big deal to me. Ive always loved playing against them because they are a lot like us. How we judge ourselves during the season is based off beating or losing to Orion. A win against them is awesome. The whole year we have those bragging rights and we usually bring it up later in the year like at basketball and volleyball games."
