MAC 2011 Football Preview: #17 Lakeview Huskies

The number 17 team in the MAC Preseason rankings is the Lakeview Huskies.  Lakeview is coming off of a 7-4 season in which they won their first ever playoff game against Port Huron Northern, 14-7.  In week 11, Lakeview was unable to beat De La Salle, the Pilots won 24-0.  This year Lakeview will be looking to replace former Coach Pat Threet, who is now coaching at Fraser.  To make up the loss of the head coach is senior runningback, Latham Donald.  Donald is the only returning senior runningback with over 2,000 rushing yards from the 2010 season.  Lakeview's enrollment has greatly risen over the past year, in 2010 the number was 1,206 but in 2011 the number will be 1,336.  Which will still keep Lakeview in Division 2.  Lakeview is located on the south side of 11 Mile Road and between Little Mack Ave and Harper Ave.

Schedule Breakdown:

The Huskies will be aiming to get back into the playoffs and improve on their 2010 season. A good way to kickoff the season is by playing a non conference opponent that will not effect if Lakeview makes the playoffs or not.  Last year Lakeview traveled to Pontiac and shutout Notre Dame Prep, 27-0.  In week 2, Marysville will be awaiting Lakeview and MAC Silver division games will begin.  Lakeview gets one more home game against a tough Lamphere team before traveling to: Warren Woods Tower, Lake Shore, and South Lake.  In week 7,  the schedule shapes up to be real favorable for the Huskies.  Both of their last two MAC Silver opponents, Clintondale and Fitzgerald, are both at home. The MAC Silver will certainly be impacted in those final two games.  And to conclude the regular season, Lakeview again travels, this time out west to Clawson.

Latham Donald - "Last year was the best year in Lakeview football history, we started off strong and if we could have kept that for the last 4 games,it would have been even better."

2. Whats some major improvements seeking from personally and/or team?

Latham Donald - "We have a whole new coaching staff with the exception of a few."

3. How has the team worked together over the off-season?

Latham Donald - "We worked in the weightroom and running directly after everyday since last season ended."

4. Which players besides you, should we keep an eye out on, both varsity and jv and possibly freshman?

Latham Donald - "On Varsity Kenny Kaufman, Ryan Bradely and Nino Genna. On JV, Zach Brush."

5. Biggest game: Either a grudge match or rivalry and whats home coming game?

Latham Donald - "The biggest game is at South Lake. Its a grudge match and we haven't found out what game is going to be homecoming yet."

6. Must win game?

Latham Donald - "Lake Shore, straight up."

7. Toughest team in Division and why?

Latham Donald - "Marysville. They have a returning quarterback who was a big factor last year."

8. Thoughts on non division opponents?

Latham Donald - "Our cross-over games are always tough, but we want to be flawless,And to do that we must beat everyone."

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #18 Utica Cheiftans

The #18 team in the MAC 2011 preseason rankings, is the defending MAC White Champions, Utica.  Utica will be coming off of a 7-3 record from 2010 and look to maintain their winning streaks.  Although Utica losses several key players noticeably: receiver/defensive back - Shane VanFleteren, lineman - Blake Bonifas, runningback - Adrian Harris, quarterback - Connor Hinebaugh, and linebacker Sedrick Jones.  The Cheiftans will return several players from 2010:  Don Rogalski, Gino Elian, Adrian Palushaj, Alex Maday, and Kirtis Murphy.  In 2010 Utica lost, 70-42 to Romeo in the first round of the playoffs.  In 2011 Utica's enrollment will rise to1,898, a raise from 1,882 from 2010.  Utica is located on the east side of Shelby Road, on the north side of 21 Mile Road.

After a week 1 MAC crossover match with Sterling Heights, Utica will begin their MAC White title defense against Cousino in week 2.  Following Cousino, Utica will have two straight games against Roseville and Grosse Pointe North, two MAC White opponents.  In week 5, Utica will have two tough non division games against Port Huron Northern and Chippewa Valley.  In week 7, Utica will re-live their biggest game from 2010, a win over Utica Ford which resulted in Utica winning the MAC White outright.  After the MAC White play is finished with L'Anse Creuse North in week 8, Utica travels to MAC Red opponent, Warren Mott to close out the season.

Utica Linebacker, Don Rogalski shared his thoughts on the upcoming season.

1. Can you comment on last year and the games, why 2010 was such a good season and what could of made it better?

We obviously had a great season going 7-2 and making the playoffs. Mostly because we had great talent all around the field, receiving, running and our qb. More defensive discipline would made out team better.


2. Whats some major improvements seeking from personally and/or team?


Improvements are we have more players this year so we can get fresh legs out when needed unlike last year with minimal substituting. And we have more speed using our jet sweep.


3. How has the team worked together over the offseason?


Off-season was good, we had conditioning/lifting 3 days a week, a majority of the team attended consistently. Did several 7 on 7 camps, the notable one is out at Wayne state.


4. Which players besides you, should we keep an eye out on, both varsity and jv and possibly freshman?


Gino Elian, Adrian Palushaj, and the Jakoviack twins all have great speed. Kirtis Murphy receiving Andrew Ackerman and Alex Maday on the line as well.


5. Biggest game: Either a grudge match or rivalry and whats home coming game?


Our team would love to defend the MAC White title so our biggest game would be against Henry Ford.


6. Must win game?


Henry Ford is a must win along with Cousino.


7. Toughest team in Division and why?


Ford. Their great size and talent.


8. Thoughts on non division opponents?


Chippewa Valley and L'anse Creuse should be wins.


9. What will it take to win division?

To win our division it will take hard work and determination which we have successfuly completed in the past by winning all the big games that count.

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #19 Chippewa Valley Big Reds

The number 19 team in the MAC Preseason rankings is the Chippewa Valley Big Reds.  Chippewa Valley is coming off a 2-7 record but many expect the Big Reds to be much more competitive in 2011.  Chippewa Valley has had one of the most respected programs in the state of Michigan in previous seasons.  2010 however was not a good year for the Big Reds but they did manage to beat the eventual MAC White Champions Utica in week 6.  2010 was also the first losing season Chippewa Valley had since going 2-7 in 1993.  Chippewa Valley will return a lot of contributors from 2010 and go toe to toe with Dakota, Romeo, Eisenhower, and Warren Mott for the MAC Red title in 2011.  At a time where it seems like every schools enrollment numbers are dropping Chippewa Valley will go from 2,189 students to 2,407 students.  Part of that could be Chippewa Valley is promoting their open district all over FSN and other media outlets.  Chippewa Valley High School is located off of the south side of 19 mile road right before the turn around at Romeo Plank in Clinton Township.

There is no doubt the MAC Red will be a really competitive conference in 2011.  It is safe to say there are 3 teams who many favor to win it: Romeo, Eisenhower, and Dakota.  Then right behind those three is Warren Mott and Chippewa Valley.  Before the important MAC division games, Chippewa Valley will travel south to play Dearborn in a non conference crossover game.  In week two if Chippewa Valley is going to be in the thick of things for the division crown, they will need to defeat, Warren Mott.  If Chippewa Valley beats Warren Mott, they will be tied for first place in the MAC Red and that could be the start of something for the Big Reds.  Chippewa Valley will be looking to bounce back from their 42-0 loss to Dakota at home last year in week 3.  Although the rivalry is not what it used to be from earlier in the past decade, this is still for  the Superintendent's Trophy and Dakota will want a win just as bad.  In week 4, Chippewa Valley hosts a tough MAC Blue opponent, Port Huron Northern.  In week 5 the Big Reds are back to division matches, they travel north on M-53 to face a hungry Romeo Bulldog team.  After a trip to Utica and a home game against Stevenson we wind up on October 14th.  In week 8, Chippewa Valley hosts Eisenhower, this game ultimately could be make or break for both teams and effect other teams in the division.  After the MAC Red opponents, Chippewa Valley finishes the season against Roseville.

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #20 Lamphere Rams

The #20 team in the MAC Preseason rankings is the Rams from Lamphere.  Lamphere is coming off of a 6-4 record in 2010, Lamphere also split the MAC Silver title with a 4 team tie.  In 2010 Lamphere reached the playoffs for the third year in a row.  Although Lamphere scored more points then they allowed in 2010, Lamphere would like to increase their offensive production in 2011.  Lamphere's enrollment has risen from 815 in 2010 to 839 in 2011.  Lamphere High School is located on the north side of 13 mile road in Madison Heights.  Lamphere is located to the east of the I-75 overpass and to the west of John R Road.

• Lamphere scored 150 points in 2010 an average of 15 points per game.  The Lamphere defense allowed 145 points in 2010 an average of just under 15 points per game.

Lamphere should have their backs against the wall this season, with 6 of their 9 games on the road.  Arguably their 4 toughest games are  on the road: South Lake, Fitzgerald, Lakeview, and Madison Heights.  After a crossover with South Lake in week 1.  Lamphere begins their MAC Silver title quest when they travel to Fitzgerald and Lakeview.  In week 4 Lamphere finally has a home game and awaiting them will be a tough Clintondale opposition.  After Lamphere travels down the road to face their rivals, Madison Heights, the schedule strength drops a bit.

De'Jour Donaldson took sometime to talk about the upcoming season for the Rams.





1. Can you comment on last year and the games, why 2010 was such a good season and what could of made it better?


De'Jour Donaldson - "What made last years season such a good one was that we got to witness the power of what team bonding can really do when it all comes together, quite a few of our games were won in the 4th quarter and it was when our third/fourth year seniors just hooked up for that big play to boost our momentum."


2. Whats some major improvements seeking from personally and/or team?


De'Jour Donaldson - "Improvements going into the 2011/2012 season that I will be looking for in the team is to really cultivate that "family" relationship not just "teammates" during the season. For myself, an improvement would be impact play ability."


3. How has the team worked together over the offseason?


De'Jour Donaldson - "The team has been coming together in various ways. One being our summer weight lifting program, a lot of underclassmen have been coming out consistently, which is always a plus! And our team mini-camp we just had, it was good to have some seniors out leading the underclassmen in some drills."


4. Which players besides you, should we keep an eye out on, both varsity and jv and possibly freshman?


De'Jour Donaldson - "One guy I would say to watch out for is our senior offensive/defensive lineman named Abrahem Balawi. He may not be the protocal lineman but his work ethnic is non-stop and that will always find a page in my book. "Hard work out beats talent, when talent doesn't work hard."


5. Biggest game: Either a grudge match or rivalry and whats home coming game?


De'Jour Donaldson - "I don't know if its our biggest game but it will definetly be our biggest test which is non-conference team South Lake. They have an abundance of athletes and considering we beat them with a 4th quarter touchdown last season, I can bet they come to finish this season especially since it's at their stadium. Homecoming is against Mt.Clemens."


6. Must win game?


De'Jour Donaldson - "Everyone wants to beat our cross town rival, but I would say a must win for us would have to be against St. Clair shores Lakeview, only considering they shut us out last season."


7. Toughest team in Division and why?


De'Jour Donaldson - "The toughest team I would say once again is Lakeview, they had a powerful run game last season with the option veer they ran. So it would be interesting to see what they bring to the table this season."


8. Thoughts on non division opponents?


De'Jour Donaldson - "Last season we had about two non divisonal teams that were good competiton and that was South Lake and city rival Madison the others weren't much of competition."


9. What will it take to win division?


De'Jour Donaldson - "To be MAC-Silver champs is no gimme' in our division, every team is pretty much equal, we just have to be that team that has discipline to fight until the fourth quarter and watch the cards fall into play. I am a firm believer in reaping what you sow, if we sow hard work each and everyday in practice then on friday night we will reap a full harvest with a victory."

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #21 Fitzgerald Spartans

Fitzgerald is coming off of a 7-4 record from 2010.  In 2011, Fitzgerald returns one of the best players in the area, Larry Lige.  Fitzgerald who is preseason ranked at #21 will look to improve off their recent seasons in 2011.   A lot of things, especially Fitzgerald's offense have been clicking since 2007.  The MAC Silver will have several tough teams in 2011 and Fitzgerald should be in the thick of things for the MAC Silver title.   After three straight seasons of an enrollment of 1,000+,   the Fitzgerald in 2011 hits bump.  In 2011 Fitzgerald's enrollment drops to 952 students.  Which should take Fitzgerald from Division 3 to Division 4.   Fitzgerald High School is located off of Ryan Road on the east side of Ryan.  Fitzgerald is located between Stephens Road and 9 Mile Road.

• In 2011 Fitzgerald scored 200 points an average of 19 points per game.   Fitzgerald allowed 224 points, an average of 21 points allowed per game.

For the second year in a row, Fitzgerald will kick off the season against Avondale.  A key matchup in this game will be one of the top cornerback's in the area, Fitzgerald's, Larry Lige against Avondale's quarterback, Mitch Robinson.  Robinson is the top returning passer in the state of Michigan and #10 overall in the whole entire country.  Following what could be a shootout, Fitzgerald hosts Lamphere and Clintondale.  Both division games will be at Fitzgerald high school.  In week 4, Fitzgerald will travel to Marysville for a MAC Silver matchup.  In week 5, East Detroit will visit Fitzgerald.  In week 6, Fitzgerald will have to travel for another OAA crossover match against Lahser.  The MAC Silver schedule winds up with homecoming game against Warren Woods Tower and a trip to Lakeview.  The final opponent is Lincoln.

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #22 Marysville Vikings

The #22 team in the MAC Preseason rankings is the Marysville Vikings.  Marysville has tallied up to 406 wins but in recent years have been unable to win consistently.   The Vikings are coming off of a 3-6 season.  The season was not started off the way the Marysville faithful would of hoped.  Marine City, Marysville top rival, defeated Marysville 12-8 in week 1.  Unlike most schools in the area, Marysville enrollment is on the rise.  In 2010, Marysville's enrollment was 756 in 2011 the enrollment number will  rise to 811.

• Marysville scored 193 points in 2010 an average of 22 points per game.  Marysville allowed 223 points in 2010 an average of 25 points per game.

Marysville will kickoff the season against Marine City their rivals in week 1.  Last year Marine City escaped by Marysville with a 12-8 win.   In 2011 if Marysville rebounds, a win over Marine City would be a great kick start to the 2011 season.  In week 2, Marysville will get their MAC Silver schedule under away when they host Lakeview.  Marysville will have to deal with a tough runningback, Latham Donald.   In weeks 3 and 4, Marysville will play MAC Silver opponents, Warren Woods Tower and Fitzgerald.  In weeks 5 and 6, the Vikings continue their non division schedule when they host Saint Clair before traveling to Lincoln.  The MAC Silver schedule is concluded with a trip to Lamphere and a home game against Clintondale.  Week 9 of the season, Marysville will have to travel to South Lake.

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #23 Grosse Pointe North Norsemen

#23 in the MAC Conference is the Grosse Pointe North Norsemen.  Though the past decade, Grosse Pointe North has been one the most consistent teams.  In 2010, Grosse Pointe North experienced their first losing season since 2003.   Grosse Pointe North in 2011 will look to bounce back from their 2-7 season in 2010.  Grosse Pointe North returns around half of  their starters for 2011.  The MAC White is expected to be pretty good with Utica Ford, followed by Cousino being the two favorites.  In 2011 the Grosse Pointe North enrollment will drop to 1,362.  The enrollment at Grosse Pointe North in 2010 was 1,415.   Grosse Pointe North is located at the intersection of Vernier Road and Morningside Drive.

If Grosse Pointe North bounces back from a disappointing 2010 season they definitely  will have their work cut out.  After non division opponent in L'Anse Creuse, Grosse Pointe North gets the three toughest teams in the MAC White in week 2, 3, and 4.  Luckily for the Norsemen the first two games, Ford and Cousino are both at home.  In week 4 the Norsemen travel up to Utica.  Following Utica will Grosse Pointe North's rivals, Grosse Pointe South.  In week 6 regardless of win or loss for the Norsemen they have the Dakota Cougars waiting for them.  In week's 7 and 8, their MAC White schedule will be completed with a home game versus L'Anse Creuse North and what can be assumed as Roseville's homecoming game on Saturday the 15th.  The Norsemen will play their final home game against Stevenson in week 9.

Quarter back Dylan Balicki took some time to address a few questions about the Norsemen for the 2011 campaign.





1. Can you comment on last year and the games, why 2010 was not such a good season and what could of made it better?


Dylan Balicki - "Last season wasn't very organized and our team lacked dedication. We had players not coming to practice and people just giving up because we had lost a few games. In our games we best ourselves with penalties and lack of discipline. If we would've worked harder and actually worked together as a team, our season probably wouldn't of ended the way it did."


2. Whats some major improvements seeking from personally and/or team?


Dylan Balicki - "Some major improvements that we have all made is that our team started showing up to workouts and putting in the extra time on the field to get better during the off season. Last season after our 7 on 7 was over, no one showed up to anything. This year all of us captains agreed that we could not be sloppy and immature like last year.  All of us worked hard in the weight room, I improved my bench to 305, and worked on throwing the ball and footwork almost daily to make sure I didn't let my team down. I am aware I need to show up as a senior captain and the quarterback, so I put in as much work as I could to help the team."


3. How has the team worked together over the offseason?


Dylan Balicki - "Getting to the weightroom early in the morning and back to it in the afternoon. Many of us worked on certain things on the field, receivers running routes, linebackers and corners getting their drops and quarterbacks reading the defense. No one wants a repeat of last year and all of us are making sure we bring back Norsemen football."


4. Which players besides you, should we keep an eye out on, both varsity and JV and possibly freshman?


Dylan Balicki - "I would definitely keep an eye on Chris Hamilton he is fast and is a solid hitter, he's been up on varsity since his sophomore year and will have next year to play as well. Watch out for Aaron Rivera he's a fast and agile running back. Look for Anthony Sarkis at receiver, as well as Charles Idemudia who has worked incredibly hard over the off season."


5. Biggest game: Either a grudge match or rivalry and whats home coming game?


Dylan Balicki - "Biggest game of the year most would say Grosse Pointe South, their our cross town rivals and beat us for the first time in 7 years last year on our home turf. Our team is hungry to go after south and beat them at their home field. But to me personally Cousino is a huge game for us, they are in our division and always come out ready to play."


6. Must win game?


Dylan Balicki - "Our must win game this year is Cousino, beating them would show that this year the Norsemen are back and that teams shouldn't think lightly of our team. Not to mention it is a division game and that makes it a huge game just for the fact that they have been top competitors in the MAC white for the last few years."


7. Toughest team in Division and why?


Dylan Balicki - "Toughest team in our division is probably Warren Cousino. Every year they are prepared and a hard working team. We just need to work harder and play smarter and we'll have a very good game against Cousino."


8. Thoughts on non division opponents?


Dylan Balicki - "We play multiple good non division opponents this year. Including our rival Grosse Pointe South and Stevenson. Although the games aren't division games they are still some very important games that would be great to win."


9. What will it take to win division?


Dylan Balicki - "To win our division it will take hard work, team work and discipline. We have to take every game serious especially MAC White games, we need to win every game we play against division teams and that's what will win us the division."

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #24 Saint Clair Saints

Hailing from the MAC Gold division, is #24 Saint Clair.  The Saints are coming off of a 4-5 record in 2010 and will look to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2007.  It is pretty well noted that the MAC Gold has and will be one of the toughest divisions in the area.  With teams like: Marine City and Madison Heights wins can be hard to get.  Also teams like: East Detroit and Lake Shore are slowly making improvements.  The last team, Fraser is expecting things to turn around in 2011.  Saint Clair's enrollment numbers like most schools have fallen.  In 2011 the trend continues as, Saint Clair moves from 981 students to 965.

• Saint Clair scored 168 points in 2010 an average of 19 points per game.  The Saints allowed 269 points in 2010 an average of 30 points per game.
• Saint Clair's record over the past 5 seasons is: 24-24.
• Saint Clair's record over the past 10 seasons is: 51-47.
• Saint Clair last reached  the playoffs in 2007 with a 8-3 record.
• Besides 2007 the other seasons in which Saint Clair has reached the playoffs are: 2006 (6-4), 2005 (9-3), 2004, 2003 (6-4), and 1999 (7-4).
• Saint Clair joined the MAC Conference in, 1997.
• Saint Clair was in the MAC Silver from: 1997-1998 and MAC Gold from: 1999-Present.

Schedule Breakdown:


The Saints will have some tough opponents from in the division as they must play Marine City and Madison Heights in week 7 and 8.  Both of those games will have division championship implications either for Saint Clair or their opponents.  In week 1 Saint Clair will host Blue Water Conference opponent, Richmond.  Starting MAC Gold play, Saint Clair hosts East Detroit and then will travel to what is expected to be a much improved Fraser team.  In week 4 and 5 the non division opponents return to the Saint Clair schedule.  In week 9 the Saints travel to Port Huron Northern for their final game of the season.

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #25 Clintondale Dragons

After another winning season for Clintondale, five in a row to be exact.  The Dragons land at #25 in the MAC Preseason rankings.  The MAC Silver team has been one of the most consistent teams in the area.  From 1977 to present day the worse record, Clintondale had in one single season was 3-6. Of those 33 seasons only 10 have been losing seasons of either 3-6 or 4-5.  In 2010 the Dragons went 6-4, losing to Marine City in the first round of the playoffs 42-13.   In six playoff appearances, Clintondale has lost to Marine City in five of those meetings.  Clintondale's only playoff win versus Marine City was in 2008, Clintondale won that game 49-41.  Clintondale's enrollment has steadily decreased over the past few seasons, in 2010 the number was 732 but 2011 it will fall to 632.  Clintondale is located in an area where it's easy to find and easy to reach the parking lot.  Clintondale can be accessed from both Little Mack and 15 Mile Road.   It is at the intersection of both streets.

• Clintondale scored 206 points in 2010 an average of 21 points per game, while allowing 151 points an average of 15 points allowed per game.
• Over the past 5 seasons Clintondale has a record of: 32-18.

At first look you see 3 of the 4 non division teams, in the MAC Bronze.  Those three games during the preseason look to be awfully winnable.  After New Haven in week 1, Clintondale will host Warren Woods Tower, as MAC Silver play will begin.  The MAC Silver schedule then gets tougher as Clintondale begins two straight road games against Fitzgerald and Lamphere.  In week 5, Clintondale returns home to host a tough, Port Huron opponent.  In week 6, Clintondale also will host MAC Bronze opponent, Center Line.  Clintondale will then have to finish their two division games on the road against: Lakeview and Marysville.  In week 9, Clintondale will face their neighbors in Mount Clemens.

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #26 Lake Shore Shorians

Standing at #26 in the MAC preseason rankings is Lake Shore.  The Shorians are coming off of a 5-4 in which they were not included in the postseason.  Lake Shore's only two MAC Gold losses were to Madison Heights and Marine City, they defeated: Fraser, Saint Clair and East Detroit.  The Division 3 school pilled up 300+ points but ultimately no one will remember that besides the Lake Shore team of 2010.   Lake Shore will need to replace their QB as well as one of the top performers in the MAC, Chris Anderson who finished his senior season with 1,500+ rushing yards and 26 touchdowns.  Lake Shore high school is easy to get but time consuming if you take 13 mile east you wind up at Lake Shore.  If you on Jefferson which is perpendicular to 13 mile road you need to find a spot to park and walk west, because the school is easy to find once you drive by it.   The enrollment number at Lake Shore rose from 1,094 in 2010 to 1,095 in 2011.

• Lake Shore scored 338 points in 2010 an average of 38 points per game while allowing 238 points.  Lake Shore averaged 27 points allowed per game.
• In the previous 5 seasons, Lake Shore has a record of 24-25.
• In the previous 10 seasons, Lake Shore has a record of 39-55.
• Lake Shore last reached the playoffs in 2009 with a 7-3 record, losing to Hazel Park in week 10.
• Lake Shore finished 2008 with a 7-4 record but was forced to forfeit all their games except a playoff game in which they won against Ferndale.  That record officially stands as 1-10.
• Lake Shore joined  the MAC in 1987.
• Lake Shore began the 1987 season in the MAC White until 1988.  Lake Shore moved to the MAC Blue from: 1989-1992, MAC Gold from: 1993-1994, MAC Silver from: 1995-1996, MAC Gold from: 1997-1998, MAC Silver from: 1999-2009, and MAC Gold  from: 2010 to present.

Schedule Breakdown:

Lake Shore will have several question marks for 2011 mainly on the offensive side of the ball.  In week 1 they will face a rejuvenated Royal Oak team with a new head coach.  Royal Oak have dropped their previous 27 games.  So it is important for Lake Shore to take care of Royal Oak.  In week 2 Lake Shore kicks off MAC Gold play when they open up for Fraser.  Fraser is a team many feel will make a run for the division title in 2011.  After Fraser Lake Shore hosts a tough Madison Heights team, who for sure will be expected for the division title.  Following the two MAC Gold opponents will be two tough MAC crossover opponents, South Lake and Lakeview.  Lake Shore then hosts: Saint Clair and East Detroit at 1 P.M.  To close out MAC Gold play, Lake Shore will travel to Marine City, that game could effect the standings/ winner of the division.  Then Lake Shore closes out the season at L'Anse Creuse.

1. Can you comment on last year and the games, why 2010 was such a good season and what could of made it better?


Travis Joseph - I felt we should have had a better year; we just fell short when it came to playoff time. But this year I feel we are better prepared and ready to make a title run.


2. Whats some major improvements seeking from personally and/or team?


Travis Joseph - What I feel we have improved on is just being a more experienced team. We know what it takes to make it to the next level. Now its time to see if all those days in the weight room pays off.


3. How has the team worked together over the offseason?


Travis Joseph - Very well I feel. Working out in the weight room often and team meetings to make sure everyone is on the same page.


4. Which players besides you, should we keep an eye out on, both varsity and jv and possibly freshman?


Travis Joseph - Varsity QB-Jimmy White OL/DL LB/and RB Bobby Anderson.


5. Biggest game: Either a grudge match or rivalry and whats home coming game?


Travis Joseph - Lakeview and South Lake to me mean the most. After having both halftime leads in both games and having the two games slip away, hit hard. Plus it’s for the jug and bragging rights within the city means everything.


6. Must win game?


Travis Joseph - Every game is a must win in my eyes, you can never take a team too lightly, that’s how upsets happen.


7. Toughest team in Division and why?


Travis Joseph - Madison and Marine City, last year they were both very tough teams that were very well coached, they will both be very tough again this year.


8. Thoughts on non division opponents?


Travis Joseph -  Well Lakeview and South Lake still stand out the most. Both very good teams and you never know what can happen in those grudge match games.


9. What will it take to win division?


Travis Joseph - It will take a whole team effort. We must play as a team and watch out for each other.

MAC 2011 Football Preview: #27 Roseville Panthers

The #27 team in our preseason rankings is the Roseville Panthers.  The Panthers are coming off their second consecutive 6-4 season.  Neither playoff game Roseville came close to winning but reaching the playoffs is a big milestone.  The 2010 Panthers team was loaded with seniors, in 2011 we get to see if the younger kids can step up and keep winning.  Roseville High School is located on the north side of Common Road.  Common Road can be accessed from either Utica Road or Gratiot.


Quick Hits:

• Roseville scored 260 points in 10 games during the 2010 season, an average of 26 points per game.  Roseville allowed 188 points in 2010 an average of 19 points per game.
• Roseville's record over the past 5 years is: 19-28.
• Roseville's record over the past 10 years is: 35-58.
• Roseville has successfully reached the playoffs the previous two season's with 6-4 records both seasons.
• Roseville's only other playoff appearance was 2003 with a 6-4 record.
• In 1989 Roseville began playing in the MAC White from: 1989-1990, MAC Red from: 1991-1992, MAC Blue from: 1993-1994, MAC White from: 1995-1996, MAC Blue from: 1997-2009, and MAC White from: 2010-Present.

At first glance of  the schedule, a trend appears.  Two away games then three home games then two away games.   That could indicate that Roseville will be a streaky team this season.  Roseville gets to host 2 of the top 3 MAC White teams, Utica Ford in week 4 and Grosse Pointe North in week 8.  Roseville kicks off the season at rival, East Detroit and then begins division play against L'Anse Creuse North.  The home stretch begins with Utica, Ford, and Fraser all visiting.  Following Fraser in week 6 will be a really tough Warren Mott team.  Roseville then will have a tough schedule to finish their season, Cousino and Grosse Pointe North.  Roseville will conclude the season at Chippewa Valley in week 9.
