Detroit, MI -- The second and final game of the Catholic League finals was A-B division. The game featured two Central league teams, U of D Jesuit (11-8) vs De La Salle (17-2). U of D dealt De La Salle their first only two losses of the season.
A minute into the game De La Salle's, Connor Tava scored the first basket. Chris Jenkins of U of D tied the game with 5:40 left in the opening quarter. With four minutes remaining in the first quarter, Tava added a layup to make the score 4-2, De La Salle.
Cameron Fowler of U of D scored on a layup, 30 seconds later De La Salle regained the lead thanks to a layup by Brad Law. After a free throw by Fowler, De La Salle was up 6-5 with 2:30 left in the first quarter.
De La Salle's Justin Beal and that was followed by a U of D turnover and Sterling Johnson scored on a fast break layup to make the score 10-5. In the final minute Harrison Wenson of U of D scored on a alley oop layup. De La Salle lead 10-7 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second quarter both teams exchanged baskets before U of D's Jordan Konior hit a three pointer to make the score 14-14 with six minutes left in the second quarter.
Late in the second quarter, De La Salle's Vaughn Avecilla hit a three pointer to make the lead 6 points but Fowler responded with a really long 2 point shot. De La Salle led 22-18 with 3 minutes in the second quarter.
De La Salle added 4 more points before halftime and Konior made one free throw for U of D. The Pilots led 26-19 at halftime.
In the third quarter it took four minutes until the first basket was scored in the quarter. Tava's basket made the score 28-19. The score at the end of the third quarter was 32-24 with most of the points coming in the final minute. Both teams picked up the pace in the final minutes thanks to a full press of U of D.
In the fourth quarter, Connor Tava's basket with 6:20 left ignited the De La Salle fans. The Pilots led 38-28. With 2:15 De La Salle was up 51-35 as most of their points were from break away layups after they broke the U of D press at will.
In the final minute De La Salle's, Justin Beal and Luigi Marinelli added slam dunks for De La Salle to add the exclamation mark in which they only allowed 46 points all game long. The Pilots won by the final score of 59-46 and now have one of their toughest tests when they play Southeastern, the PSL champion.
